Risperdal

Risperdal (risperidone) is a drug used to treat a number of psychiatric conditions caused by the imbalance of chemicals in the brain. Your may be prescribed this drug for the treatment of schizophrenia and manic depression. If you are taking this medicine, you need to be aware of an increased sensitivity to weather extremes – such as too cold or too hot weather. Make sure you always drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration when exercising or slaying outside in hot weather. Alcohol can worsen some of the side effects you may experience. Make sure you contact your heath care provider and avoid taking any more of this medicine if you have: confusion, fever, stiff muscles, fainting, uneven heartbeats, sweating, lightheadedness, tremor, or trouble swallowing, as these may be severe side effects that can lead to more serious consequences. Other serious side effects you may experience and that have to be reported to your health care provider as soon as possible may include chills, tremor, fever, fainting, trouble swallowing, confusion, fast or uneven heartbeats, feeling light-headed, stiff muscles, body aches, and flu symptoms. You are a lot more likely to experience just a few mild side effects, such as dizziness, constipation, decreased sex drive, headache, blurred vision, mild restlessness, nausea, weight gain, drowsiness, dry mouth, and sleepiness. The mild side effects mentioned tend to go away on their own - so there is no point in worrying about them too much. This drug can also sometimes increase your levels of blood sugar with such symptoms possible as excessive hunger, weakness, increased thirst, and increased urination. Talk to your health care provider if you get any of the symptoms mentioned, especially if you have been diagnosed with diabetes. Always take the right dose you have been prescribed and never exceed the amount you need to take or the frequency of your treatment, as this may lead to an overdose. If you think you may have taken too much of this medicine, make sure you seek emergency medical assistance. The following symptoms may indicate you have used too much of Risperdal and need emergency help: fast heart rate, fainting, restless muscle movements in different parts of the body, drowsiness, and lightheadedness, although some other symptoms are also possible. This medicine is FDA pregnancy category C and the treatment with it should be discussed with your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
